GERMAN SHEPHERDS
ABOUT US
Kapital K9 German Shepherds is VETERAN OWNED and OPERATED opening our facility in 2010 building our reputation as a trusted German Shepherd Breeder in California. In 2018, we relocated to Northern Virginia where we have continued our reputation as a trusted German Shepherd Breeder, maintaining past clients and establishing new ones. We take our responsibilities very seriously and strive to ensure the Health, Safety and Well-Being of all our German Shepherds. Additionally, we pride ourselves on managing a smaller kennel in an effort to uphold only the highest standards in Health, Temperament and Structure, based on the Breed Standard of the German Shepherd.
You may ask, how we do this?
At Kapital K9 German Shepherds we work hard to maintain the Breed Standard. The standard for the German Shepherd describes a dog that is "Longer than tall, Deep Bodied, and presents an outline of Smooth Curves rather than Sharp Angels." According to the GSD Standard, the first impression of a good German Shepherd Dog is that of a Strong, Agile, Well Muscled Animal, Alert and Full of Life. GSD's are well balanced, with harmonious development of the Forequarter and Hindquarter. In addition, to developing strong well balanced German Shepherds, we are dedicated to our clients in proper education, training and commitment; to develop a harmonious relationship between owner and the German Shepherd; whether as a family pet or a fully trained protection dog which we all have come to respect and admire.

PUPPY UPDATE
November 4, 2024: The puppies were born early this past Saturday Morning. There was the loss of several of the puppies, as is expected in most breeding it is just nature and nothing we can do. However, we have 5 healthy and thriving puppies, who will be looking for new homes come February 2025. At this time, I have one (1) male and (4) Females looking for forever homes. I am not sure of the coloring of these puppies at this time, as it will take several weeks before the coloring starts to appear. I look forward to speaking with all who are interested in strong, sound minded, well structured puppies from this breeding.
6 WEEKS OLD
This is the last available puppy from this litter, she will be Seven weeks old this Saturday, December 21. She had her vet check this past week and weighed in at 12.2 pounds. Additionally, everything else was cleared by the vet. She has high drive and is the leader of the litter. She has huge drive for the toys and playing with her litter mates. She is strong in her structure and is demonstrating a clear head, she thinks and figures issues out. She has been the first in many new adventures, she was first to seek out and drink water, she was the first the make to the top of the sloped play blocks. She has been dewormed twice and will be getting her first shots this week.

BREEDING
We take our breeding program very seriously both are Males and Females are vet checked prior to any breeding's, to
insure their health. Additionally, our females breed to the
age of six or have two litters which ever comes first. Furthermore, about the fifth week of pregnancy are females are separated from the rest of the kennel; to limit her stress
for the final weeks until birth. This allows her to become comfortable with the whelping area and make it her own, again limiting stress on the mother and her litter.
We attempt to mate dogs which will complement each other in Size, Coloring, Temperament, and Drive, if one dog has a slight defect we attempt to find a dog with stronger genes in the defect area. This is not always possible but we do our best. These are some of the benefits of a smaller kennel, attention to detail to maintain the German Shepherd Standard.

TRAINING
Our training, especially with the puppies, is at their pace. We are never going to use shock collars or force training to get them to perform. We have seen with a few extra days the puppy WILL respond to the training and come along. We like to see the start of some training with the puppies at about 6 weeks of age.
As the dogs progress and are expected to know and do more either in Obedience or Protection we will use pinch collars and at times a shock collar on a very limited basis. There are times these dogs need to be corrected and
sometimes the correction can be harsh, however, never prolonged or causing any injury. We want our Shepherds to respond to training and feel they have a job and having fun while working. Therefore, positive re-enforcement is the best solution at any point of training.
We do follow a training expectation. Once we know the GSD understands his training, when asked to perform, the GSD
will be given a command. If there is no response or a lazy response, the second command comes with a slight
correction for the action. On the third attempt there will be
a more aggressive command associated with the correction. Again, this is only after the GSD has a solid recognition of what is being asked and to refocus his attention, and never causing injury to the dog.
Call and ask about the training we offer; or make a request
online via email.

BOARDING
We offer several different types of boarding; the short overnight to the long weekend boarding. Additionally, we offer stay and train boarding. All boarded dogs are offered their own or shared kennels. Standard kennel is a 6x6x6.
All dogs are out to play several times a day either alone or with others based on the instructions of the client. All dogs during outside time are offered a number of different toy options, pools (weather permitting) and fetch, yards are
secure and locked at all times. Boarded dogs need to have proof of all current vaccinations. The kennel is climate controlled with heating and air conditioning depending on
the time of the year. Additionally, the kennel is under
constant watch of video cameras and is locked and secured each night. Our boarding space is limited, so make plans early in order to secure your space for long weekends and holidays.

IMPORTED DOGS
We do, on a regular basis, import dogs from German, Czech Republic, Japan, and Russia (there are restrictions on
Russia at this time). If we don't have the dog you are looking for at the time, we are able to locate dogs from other breeders around the United States. We have established contacts overseas who are very willing to work with us on importing your dog. Additionally, we use a broker in New York who handles all the paperwork for customers and make the transition of picking up the dog at the airport very simple. Furthermore, we have shipped dogs all over the Unites States from our kennel and those that have been imported.
